| MOUNTAIN VIEW BEATS SUMMIT TO END THE YEAR PERFECT! Seven games into the 2008/2009 basketball season, the Cougars had done everything they set out to do; beat every opponent including 3 ranked teams, play good team defense, and play in the championship of the Summit Holiday Tournament. The only thing missing, was a win in the tournament finale against the host team, the Summit Storm. And so on Wednesday afternoon (12/31), Mountain View finished what they started with a convincing 69-47 victory over the Storm. From the first few minutes of the contest, the game was never in doubt as the Cougars smothering defense limited Summit to just 6 first quarter points, while Mountain View stormed the basket for 27 points and a 21 point lead after the opening quarter. The Cougars cruised the rest of the way for their eight win without a loss. Brother’s Brady & Seth Brent led the way for Mountain View with 14 and 13 points respectively while the rest of the Cougars played the kind of team ball that will make them tough to beat in 2009. Mountain View’s Brady Brent & Pat Cashman were named to the Summit Holiday All-Tournament team! Mountain View will open league play on Jan 9th at home against Pendleton, and then host defending IMC champion Hermiston on Jan 10th. COUGARS TO PLAY SUMMIT IN TOURNEY CHAMPIONSHIP! MOUNTAIN VIEW MOVES ON WITH A BIG WIN! Brandon The Cougars received very sad news on the night of November 25th. Steve Perryman called Coach Reid that night to inform him that his son, Brandon passed away while in Portland for treatment, from Cystic Fibrosis. While his health had been declining in recent months, the suddenness is a shock to the Cougar program and the community. Until heading up to Portland last week, Brandon had been helping the Cougar basketball team out at practice with drills etc... He was going to get direction from his doctor, as to what level of participation he could do this season. The Cougars were hoping that he could be cleared to do shooting drills and possibly be able to come out with the team for pre-game warm ups. Along with his teammates he was preparing for the season. He taught everyone what it really means to be tough, fearless, and most of all, what courage can do to help people achieve great things. Participating for two and a half years in high school basketball was an incredible accomplishment for a person with Cystic Fibrosis. Not only did he participate, but he improved his skill level tremendously and developed into one of the better shooters in the program. Brandon would tell you that he was the best shooter in the program. Recently when he and Coach Reid discussed the possibility of him shooting any technical free throws this season, he had that grin and look in his eyes that told you, "Coach - of course I should be the one shooting the techs". His confidence was a beautiful thing. The community, and more specifically the Mountain View Basketball Program, will miss Brandon greatly. But as Coach Reid stated, "He'll be with us forever." |
